The trek is a sensory adventure, with towering peaks, glaciers, and rugged terrain. Along the way, you will pass through yak herder camps and cozy tea houses, where you can interact with the local people and learn about their way of life in the mountains.

The trail gently ascends to the pass's summit, offering a moment for us to capture photographs and appreciate the encompassing mountain panorama. From the pass, we undertake a rocky descent to Thuli Kharka, a vast meadow adorned with grass, shrubs, and scattered boulders, serving as a campsite for yak herders. This serene location also features a few teahouses, providing welcome rest and refreshments for trekkers on their journey.

Along the way, we navigate through remote settlements, with the route punctuated by the crossing of suspension bridges, further enriching our trekking experience with a blend of cultural immersion and the breathtaking wilderness of the region.

Day 06:Trek from Kothe to Thaknak

Ascending from Kothe into the Upper Hinku Valley, we witness the treeline vanish as elevation increases, leaving behind the last of the major villages to reveal expansive meadows and grazing sites. A brief pause at Gondishung offers us a moment for tea and refreshments amidst the journey. The route is adorned with views of majestic mountains like Mera Peak, Kusum Kanguru, Thamserku, and Charpati Himal. We'll visit the Lungdsumba Gompa, a Buddhist shrine with 200 years of history, enriching our trek with cultural significance. Just an hour from the gompa, Thaknak awaits, offering unparalleled views of Charpati Himal, marking a memorable day in our ascent.

Day 07:Trek from Thaknak to Khare

Heading out from Thaknak, today's journey takes us to Khare, known as the Mera Peak Base Camp. The route continues its ascent across the Hinku Nup and Shar glaciers, leading us to our destination, Khare. Nestled at Mera Peak's foot, Khare serves as the base camp, equipped with a few teahouses and climbing gear shops, readying climbers for the ascent with essentials and a place to rest.

Day 08:Khare: Acclimatization and pre-climb training

Taking a rest day at Khare for acclimatization, we gear up for an exhilarating day of pre-climbing training led by our team leader, aimed at boosting our confidence for the climb ahead. This session offers a practical opportunity to refine existing climbing skills and acquire new techniques. The training covers essential mountaineering practices, including ascending and descending with a harness, utilizing various climbing gear, and mastering the art of knot-tying, belaying, and rappelling. Additionally, we'll conduct a final check of our gear and prepare our bags, ensuring we're fully equipped and ready for the summit attempt.

Day 09:Climb from Khare to Mera High Camp

Departing from Mera Peak Base Camp (Khare), our ascent follows a steep, rocky path towards Mera La, graced with stunning views of Mera South, North, and Central. The journey progresses up to the Mera Glacier, from where we steadily climb to the Mera High Camp. The route, devoid of technical sections, requires navigating through thick snow, making the climb straightforward yet challenging due to high altitude, strong winds, and severe cold. Upon arrival at Mera High Camp, we set up tents, while the support crew provides much-needed warmth with hot drinks and meals. The remainder of the day is dedicated to rest and preparation, gathering strength for the forthcoming summit attempt.

Day 10:Mera High Camp to summit and back to Khare

In the pre-dawn darkness, we'll set off from Mera High Camp at 2:00 AM, guided by the light of our headlamps. The guide and support crew will ensure our safety by securing ropes along our path. Our journey begins with a crossing of the Mera Glacier, followed by a gradual ascent. Despite the cold and thinning air challenging our pace, our determination will see us through. The ascent's crux, a steep 40-50 meter stretch just before the summit, demands the use of fixed ropes and jumars to conquer. Our goal is to reach the Mera Central summit between 9:00 AM and 10:00 AM, where we'll be rewarded with a spectacular Himalayan vista, showcasing Everest, Kanchenjunga, Makalu, Cho Oyu, Lhotse, and more. After taking in the summit's breathtaking views, we'll descend back to Mera High Camp, then trek further down to Khare for the night, ensuring we leave the high camp as pristine as we found it.

Day 11:Trek from Khare to Kothe

With the Mera Peak climb behind us, we begin our return trek to Lukla. The descent starts from Khare, leading us down to Kothe. The journey to Thaknak, taking approximately three hours along rugged paths, precedes our arrival in Kothe, where we'll spend the night. This segment of our trek is relatively short, offering ample opportunity to rest and reflect on the journey. The landscapes we pass through remain breathtaking, providing a serene backdrop as we wind down from the exhilaration of summiting Mera Peak and prepare for the final leg back to Lukla.

Day 12:Trek from Kothe to Thuli Kharka

Departing Kothe after a nourishing breakfast, our journey resumes through dense forests, taking us along the Hinku Valley's western reaches toward Thuli Kharka for our overnight stay. This leg of the trek, immersed in the natural beauty of the surrounding woodlands, offers a gradual transition from the rugged terrains we've navigated. Thuli Kharka, our resting point, affords us spectacular views of all three Mera peaks, presenting a wonderful panorama that encapsulates the essence of our adventure. It's an opportunity to savor the accomplishments of our expedition against the backdrop of the majestic Himalayas.

Day 13:Trek from Thuli Kharka to Chutanga via Zwatra La (4,600 m/15,092 ft)

Crossing the Zwatra La pass once more, we depart from Thuli Kharka, ascending a rocky trail to the pass's summit, greeted by stunning panoramic views of the mountains. Descending from the pass, we approach the Kalo Himal ridge, adorned with prayer flags and stones, a testament to the spiritual reverence of the area. The journey continues on a downward trail, weaving through pastures and dense rhododendron forests, guiding us back to Chutanga. This segment of the trek is a reflective passage through the serene landscapes, marking the completion of a loop that began and ends with the natural beauty of Chutanga.

Day 14:Trek from Chutanga to Lukla
