Kongma La
Kongma La is one of the highest and most adventurous mountain passes in the Everest region of Nepal. It sits at an altitude of about 5,535 meters (18,159 feet) and is part of the famous Three Passes Trek, which also includes Cho La and Renjo La. Kongma La connects the beautiful village of Chhukung in the Imja Valley with Lobuche in the Khumbu Valley.
Kongma La is less crowded than other trekking routes in the Everest region. Many trekkers skip it because it is a bit more challenging, but those who take this route are rewarded with breathtaking mountain views, quiet trails, and a true sense of adventure. From the top of the pass, you can see majestic peaks like Lhotse, Makalu, Ama Dablam, and even a glimpse of Mount Everest.
The trek to Kongma La usually starts from Chhukung, a small village in the Everest region. From there, it takes about 7 to 9 hours to cross the pass and reach Lobuche. The trail is steep, rocky, and in some places, covered with snow or loose stones. You don’t need climbing gear, but you must be physically fit and well-acclimatized to high altitude.
Trekkers should start early in the morning to avoid bad weather and give themselves enough time to cross the pass safely.
