Machha Khola
Machha Khola is a small and peaceful village in the Gorkha District of Nepal. It lies at an altitude of around 869 meters above sea level, beside the beautiful Budi Gandaki River. This place is one of the main stops on the famous Manaslu Circuit Trek. The name “Machha Khola” means “Fish River” in Nepali, and it comes from the river nearby where locals often go fishing.
The village is surrounded by green hills, terraced fields, and traditional houses made of stone and wood. Machha Khola is not just a resting point — it’s also a place to experience real rural life in Nepal. The people here are mostly from Gurung and Magar ethnic groups. They are very friendly and welcoming to trekkers passing through.
From Machha Khola, trekkers continue walking north toward Jagat, Deng, and eventually to the Manaslu Base Camp. The trail from Soti Khola to Machha Khola is full of beautiful views — waterfalls, forests, suspension bridges, and the roaring river. Although the path is sometimes narrow and rocky, the journey is exciting and rewarding.
You won’t find luxury here, but Machha Khola offers comfortable tea houses and homestays where trekkers can eat, rest, and sleep for the night. Popular food includes dal bhat, noodles, and local vegetables. After a long day of walking, sitting by the river and listening to the sound of water is a perfect way to relax.
If you’re planning to trek in the Manaslu region, Machha Khola is one of those special places where nature and culture meet. It may be a small village, but it holds a big part of the adventure.
