In the evening, join us for a welcome dinner where you will meet your guide and receive an introduction to the trek along with a briefing and a check of your gear and essentials.

We warmly welcome all travelers to experience the beauty and adventure of Nepal!

On this day, you will explore the rich culture and heritage of Kathmandu before starting your trek. Your guide will take you to some of the city’s most famous sites, such as the ancient Durbar Square, the sacred Pashupatinath Temple, and the peaceful Boudhanath Stupa. These places offer a glimpse into Nepal’s spiritual traditions and vibrant history.

In the afternoon, you will have time to prepare for your trek. This includes checking your gear, buying any last-minute supplies, and attending a detailed briefing with your guide about the trek route, safety tips, and what to expect during your journey.

The day ends with a relaxing dinner, giving you the chance to rest and get ready for the exciting adventure ahead.

After breakfast at your hotel in Kathmandu, you will begin your road journey to Machha Khol. The drive takes about 7 to 8 hours, depending on traffic and road conditions. Leaving the busy city behind, you will travel through beautiful countryside with terraced fields, small villages, and stunning mountain views.

Along the way, you can stop for refreshments or lunch at local restaurants to enjoy traditional Nepali food and experience the local culture. The road gently winds through hills and valleys, offering lovely natural scenery.

When you arrive in Machha Khol, you will check into your guesthouse or lodge. Take some time to relax and explore the village. In the evening, enjoy a simple meal and get ready for the next day’s adventure.

The trek from Machha Khola to Dobhan is a scenic and moderately challenging day that takes around 6 to 7 hours of walking. The trail follows the Budhi Gandaki River, crossing several suspension bridges and passing through lush forests, terraced fields, and traditional Gurung and Magar villages. Along the way, you’ll pass Khorlabesi, where you may spot a few natural hot springs, and continue through small settlements like Tatopani, where trekkers often stop for a short rest.

As you move forward, the trail becomes narrower with occasional steep climbs and descents, offering dramatic views of surrounding cliffs and waterfalls. You’ll cross multiple suspension bridges, including one of the most exciting over the Dobhan Khola before finally reaching Dobhan — a peaceful village nestled at the confluence of two rivers. Dobhan is a great spot to rest and recharge, with a few teahouses offering basic accommodation and warm meals.

Today’s journey from Philim to Chumling via Lokpa marks your entry into the hidden Tsum Valley. The trail begins with a gradual climb through lush forests and narrow ridges with spectacular views of cascading waterfalls and steep river gorges. After a couple of hours, you’ll reach the small village of Lokpa, the gateway to Tsum Valley, where the trail separates from the Manaslu Circuit.

From Lokpa, the trail becomes more secluded and peaceful as you leave the main Manaslu route. The path winds through dense pine and rhododendron forests, crossing long suspension bridges and offering stunning views of Shringi Himal. A final descent and climb lead you to Chumling, a beautiful village on the southern side of the Shingri Himal range. Chumling is rich in Tibetan culture and has traditional stone houses, ancient monasteries, and welcoming locals. It’s a perfect place to rest and soak in the spiritual atmosphere of Tsum Valley.

The trek from Philim to Chumling via Lokpa is a beautiful and adventurous day that officially leads you into the sacred Tsum Valley. Starting from Philim, the trail climbs steadily through lush forests, narrow ridges, and small streams. You’ll pass scenic viewpoints with cascading waterfalls and deep river gorges below. After around 2–3 hours of walking, you’ll reach Lokpa, the first village of Tsum Valley, where the landscape begins to change and becomes more remote and peaceful.

From Lokpa, the trail becomes narrower and more challenging as it winds through dense pine and rhododendron forests. After crossing a long suspension bridge over the Shiar Khola, there’s a steep uphill section that rewards you with beautiful views of Shringi Himal. Eventually, you arrive at Chumling, a traditional Tibetan-influenced village with stone houses, ancient monasteries, and prayer flags fluttering in the wind. Chumling offers a warm and cultural welcome to the hidden world of Tsum Valley.

The trek from Chumling to Chhekampar is a rewarding day that takes you deeper into the heart of Tsum Valley. The trail begins by crossing a suspension bridge over the Shiar Khola and gradually climbs through thick forests, open fields, and scattered settlements. As you ascend, you’ll notice a shift in scenery — the landscape becomes drier, and the mountains appear closer, offering stunning views of Ganesh Himal and other snow-capped peaks.

After a few hours of steady uphill trekking, you’ll pass through traditional villages with beautiful stone houses and mani walls (prayer-inscribed stones), reflecting the strong Tibetan Buddhist influence in the region. Eventually, you reach Chhekampar, one of the largest and most culturally rich villages in the valley. Located on a broad, flat plateau, Chhekampar offers breathtaking mountain views and a chance to interact with the warm-hearted locals. It’s a peaceful and spiritual place, ideal for rest and cultural immersion.

The trek from Chhekampar to Nile is a relatively short but scenic journey that takes you further into the upper Tsum Valley, close to the Tibetan border. The trail gently ascends along the Shiar Khola river, passing through remote villages, mani walls, and chortens that reflect the deep-rooted Tibetan Buddhist culture. Along the way, you’ll enjoy stunning views of Ganesh Himal, Shringi Himal, and other surrounding peaks.

You’ll also pass through the village of Lamagaon, where you can visit the famous Milarepa Cave (Piren Phu), a sacred site where the revered Tibetan saint meditated in the 11th century. After some gradual uphill walking through open meadows and dry landscapes, you’ll reach Nile, one of the last villages before the upper valley ends. With its stone-built homes and peaceful surroundings, Nile offers a true sense of Himalayan isolation and tranquility — perfect for acclimatization and spiritual reflection.

On this special exploration day, you’ll trek from Nile up to Mu Gompa, one of the most sacred and remote monasteries in Tsum Valley. The trail climbs steadily through alpine meadows, rocky terrain, and prayer flag-decorated ridges, offering breathtaking panoramic views of the surrounding mountains and valleys. Mu Gompa, perched on a ridge at 3,700 meters, is a peaceful meditation site where monks continue ancient Tibetan Buddhist practices, making it a spiritually enriching experience.

After spending time at the monastery and soaking in the tranquil atmosphere, you’ll retrace your steps back down to Chhekampar. The descent offers a different perspective of the landscape as you pass through forests and small villages. This day is perfect for acclimatization, cultural immersion, and enjoying the untouched natural beauty of the upper Tsum Valley.

The trek from Chhekampar to Gumba Lungdang takes you through serene landscapes rich in Tibetan Buddhist culture. The trail gradually descends and then climbs gently through forests of pine and rhododendron, passing traditional stone houses and mani walls that line the path. Along the way, you’ll enjoy peaceful village scenes and sweeping views of the surrounding Himalayan peaks.

Gumba Lungdang is a quiet, remote settlement known for its ancient monastery (gumba), which serves as a spiritual center for local villagers and trekkers alike. The village’s tranquil atmosphere and beautiful mountain backdrop make it a perfect place to rest, reflect, and experience the authentic lifestyle of the Tsum Valley’s inhabitants.

This long but rewarding day takes you from the peaceful village of Gumba Lungdang down towards Lokpa, passing through Ripchet along the way. The trail descends steadily through dense forests of pine and rhododendron, winding past traditional villages and terraced fields. You’ll cross several streams and suspension bridges, enjoying beautiful views of the surrounding hills and distant snow-capped peaks.

As you continue, the trail becomes gentler approaching Ripchet, a small village offering a glimpse into rural life in the Tsum Valley. From Ripchet, you’ll follow a gradual descent to Lokpa, the gateway village marking the exit from the upper Tsum region. The trail here is lined with mani stones and prayer flags, reflecting the deep spiritual heritage of the area. After a full day of trekking, Lokpa offers comfortable teahouses and a warm welcome to rest and recharge.

The trek from Lokpa down to Sirdibas is a scenic descent that takes you out of the Tsum Valley and back towards the Manaslu region’s main trail. The path gradually descends through terraced fields, forests, and small villages, offering beautiful views of the surrounding hills and distant mountains. Along the way, you’ll pass traditional stone houses, mani walls, and vibrant prayer flags, reflecting the area’s rich Tibetan Buddhist culture.

As you approach Sirdibas, the landscape becomes more cultivated and lively, with local markets and teahouses providing a warm welcome. Sirdibas is a charming village and an important stopover for trekkers on the Manaslu Circuit, offering good facilities and a chance to rest before continuing your journey.

This day’s trek takes you from the peaceful village of Sirdibas down through lush river valleys towards Khorlabesi and finally Machha Khola. The trail descends steadily along the Budhi Gandaki River, passing through dense forests, terraced farmland, and small traditional villages. You’ll cross several suspension bridges that offer spectacular views of the river and surrounding cliffs.

Khorlabesi is a quaint settlement known for its natural hot springs, where many trekkers stop to relax and rejuvenate. Continuing onward, the trail descends further to Machha Khola, a bustling village that serves as a key point for supplies and transportation on the Manaslu Circuit trek. This section offers a gentle but long day of trekking filled with beautiful scenery and cultural encounters.

After completing your trek, you’ll take a jeep ride from Machha Khola back to Kathmandu. The journey typically takes 8 to 9 hours, depending on road and weather conditions. The route follows the Budhi Gandaki River valley, passing through several small towns, terraced fields, and beautiful rural landscapes.

Though the ride can be long and bumpy at times, it offers a chance to relax and enjoy the changing scenery from the mountains to the Kathmandu Valley. You’ll arrive back in Kathmandu, the vibrant capital city of Nepal, where you can celebrate the completion of your adventure and explore its rich culture and history.

After completing the unforgettable Tsum Valley trek, you will return to Kathmandu, where your final preparations take place. This is the time to relax, freshen up, and reflect on the incredible journey through the remote Himalayan valleys and rich Tibetan culture. When your departure day arrives, you will be transferred from your hotel to Tribhuvan International Airport in Kathmandu for your onward international flight, marking the end of your Nepal trekking adventure. Useful Info

Best Season for Tsum Valley Trek

The best times to trek the Tsum Valley Trek are spring (March to May) and autumn (September to November). During spring, the trail offers clear mountain views, pleasant temperatures, and blooming rhododendrons in multiple colors. Autumn brings stable weather, clear skies, and exceptional views of Mt. Manaslu and surrounding peaks.
Trekking in winter and monsoon seasons is not advised due to heavy snowfall, closed lodges at higher altitudes, and high landslide risks during the rains.

Food on the Trek

Although food choices are limited compared to city areas, trekkers can expect healthy, hygienic meals throughout the journey. A typical trek includes 12 breakfasts, 12 lunches, and 11 dinners.
Breakfast options include Tibetan bread, eggs, cereals, pancakes, toast, fruits, and hot drinks.
Lunch and dinner commonly feature dal bhat, vegetable curries, noodles, thukpa, pasta, soups, and snacks. It’s best to eat fresh vegetables, drink plenty of water, and avoid mixing dairy, meat, alcohol, and coffee.

Accommodation

In Kathmandu, you’ll find a wide range of hotels, but along the trek, accommodation is mostly at basic tea houses. Rooms are twin-sharing, often with shared toilets outside the room. Tea houses have a communal dining area with a fireplace. In higher altitudes, it’s essential to carry a warm sleeping bag.

Trek Difficulty

The  Tsum Valley Trek is a challenging trek, especially when  Tsum Valley is Mu Gompa, located at an altitude of 3,700 meters (12,139 feet).. The trail is less developed compared to Annapurna or Everest, demanding good physical condition and prior hiking experience. Mental resilience and preparation are key to completing this high-altitude trek.

The Tsum Valley Trek usually starts in Soti Khola or Machha Khola in the Gorkha District and ends in Soti Khola or Arughat, depending on the itinerary. Most trekkers follow a loop through the remote Tsum Valley, exploring ancient monasteries and traditional villages before returning via the same trail or connecting with the Manaslu Circuit route for a longer adventure.

The Tsum Valley Trek usually takes about 14 to 21 days, depending on your starting point, trekking pace, and chosen itinerary. This remote trek in the Manaslu region leads you through beautiful Himalayan landscapes, ancient Buddhist monasteries, and traditional villages near the Tibetan border. It’s a moderate to challenging trek, so proper acclimatization and preparation are important for a safe and enjoyable journey.

Yes, you need a licensed guide for the Tsum Valley Trek because it is a restricted area in Nepal. The government requires trekkers to have a special permit, which can only be issued through a registered trekking company with a guide. A guide will not only help you navigate the remote trails safely but also handle permits, arrange accommodation, and share insights about the local Tibetan-influenced culture, making your trek more enjoyable and worry-free.
The highest point of the Tsum Valley Trek is Mu Gompa, located at an altitude of about 3,700 meters (12,139 feet). This remote monastery lies close to the Tibetan border and offers stunning views of the surrounding Himalayan peaks. It’s the spiritual heart of the valley and a highlight for most trekkers.
The Tsum Valley Trek is considered a moderate trek, suitable for trekkers with a good basic fitness level and some previous hiking experience. The trails involve several uphill and downhill sections, stone steps, and high-altitude walking, with the highest point around 3,700 meters. While it doesn’t require technical climbing skills, the remote location, long walking days, and limited facilities can make it more challenging than popular treks. Proper preparation, acclimatization, and a positive mindset will help you enjoy this culturally rich and scenic journey.
The best season for the Tsum Valley Trek is during spring (March to May) and autumn (September to November), when the weather is clear, skies are blue, and the trails are dry. In spring, you’ll enjoy blooming rhododendrons and fresh greenery, while autumn offers stunning mountain views after the monsoon. These seasons provide the most comfortable trekking conditions and the best chance for breathtaking scenery.
Yes, the Tsum Valley Trek offers several exciting side trips for trekkers who have extra time and energy. Popular options include a visit to the Mu Gompa and Dhephu Doma Monastery near the Tibetan border, day hikes to the sacred Milarepa’s Cave, and exploring the remote villages of Rachen Gompa and Nile. These side trips give you a deeper experience of the valley’s Tibetan Buddhist culture, stunning mountain views, and hidden spiritual sites.
Yes, the Tsum Valley Trek can be combined with the Manaslu Circuit Trek in one trip, making it a longer and more adventurous journey. Many trekkers start with Tsum Valley to explore its remote Tibetan-influenced villages, monasteries, and hidden valleys, then continue onto the Manaslu Circuit to cross the challenging Larke La Pass (5,106 m). This combination offers both cultural immersion and stunning Himalayan landscapes, but it requires more days, good physical fitness, and proper permits for both regions.
To book the Tsum Valley Trek, simply contact Nature Heaven Treks and Expedition via WhatsApp at +977-9851218358 or visit our website at https://natureheaventrek.com/ Share your preferred travel dates, group size, and any special requirements, and our team will help you choose the best itinerary, arrange permits, and organize all logistics for a smooth and memorable trekking experience.
For the Tsum Valley Trek, you need two main permits: the Tsum Valley Restricted Area Permit (RAP) and the Manaslu Conservation Area Permit (MCAP). The RAP is required because Tsum Valley is a restricted region, and it must be arranged through a registered trekking agency. The MCAP helps protect the natural and cultural heritage of the area. If your trek also connects to the Manaslu Circuit, you’ll additionally need the Manaslu Restricted Area Permit.
For the Tsum Valley Trek, you need a Tsum Valley Restricted Area Permit, which costs USD 40 per person per week for the first week and USD 7 per person per day for each additional day. You also need the Manaslu Conservation Area Permit (MCAP) and the Annapurna Conservation Area Permit (ACAP), each costing NPR 3,000 per person (about USD 25) for foreigners. All permits must be arranged through a registered trekking agency in Nepal.
Yes, the Tsum Valley Trek cost offered by most trekking companies is usually all-inclusive, covering permits, accommodation, meals during the trek, transportation, a licensed guide, and porters. However, personal expenses like drinks, snacks, travel insurance, and tips for the crew are generally not included, so it’s important to check the package details before booking.
Yes, you can pay for the Tsum Valley Trek online through Nature Heaven Treks’ secure payment options. We accept major credit/debit cards, bank transfers, and trusted online payment gateways, making it easy and safe to confirm your booking from anywhere in the world.

Yes, to confirm your booking with Nature Heaven Treks, you will need to pay a deposit. This upfront payment secures your spot on the trek or expedition, allows us to arrange permits, accommodations, and guides in advance, and ensures everything is ready for your adventure.

Yes, there can be extra costs during the trek, such as hot showers, battery charging, Wi-Fi, snacks, bottled water, tips for guides and porters, and personal expenses like souvenirs or drinks. These are not usually included in the trek package, so it’s a good idea to carry some extra cash.

Yes, travel insurance is highly recommended for the Tsum Valley Trek, and most trekking agencies in Nepal require it before starting the journey. The trek takes you to remote, high-altitude areas where medical facilities are limited, so your insurance should cover emergency helicopter evacuation, medical treatment, and trip cancellations. Having proper coverage ensures your safety and peace of mind throughout the adventure.

On the Tsum Valley Trek, accommodation is mostly in simple teahouses or lodges run by local families. These offer basic rooms with twin beds, shared bathrooms, and limited facilities. Blankets are usually provided, but carrying a warm sleeping bag is recommended, especially in colder months. The stay is cozy and a great way to experience local hospitality and culture.

During the trek, you’ll find a variety of freshly cooked meals in local teahouses, including Nepali dishes like dal bhat (rice, lentil soup, and vegetables), noodles, soups, fried rice, pasta, and potatoes. Breakfast options often include eggs, pancakes, porridge, and tea or coffee. Meals are simple but filling, made to keep you energized for the trail.

Yes, it’s highly recommended to carry your own sleeping bag for the trek. Mountain lodges may provide blankets, but they are often not warm enough, especially at higher altitudes. Bringing a good-quality sleeping bag rated to –10 °C or lower will keep you warm, comfortable, and safe during cold nights.

Yes, there is electricity in the Tsum Valley, but it is limited and mostly powered by small hydropower plants or solar panels in villages. The supply can be unreliable, especially in remote areas, and power cuts are common. Charging your devices may not always be possible, so it’s best to carry a power bank or extra batteries during the trek.

Yes, there is limited mobile network coverage in the Tsum Valley, but it can be patchy and unreliable, especially in remote villages. Ncell and Nepal Telecom signals work in some areas, but not everywhere. Internet access is available in a few lodges through Wi-Fi, often powered by solar energy, and may require an extra charge.

For the Tsum Valley Trek, pack light but bring all the essentials for comfort and safety in the mountains. Carry warm clothing like a down jacket, thermal layers, gloves, and a hat, as temperatures can drop quickly. Good trekking boots, a sleeping bag rated to –10 °C, trekking poles, and a rain jacket are important for varying weather. Don’t forget a headlamp, water bottles or a hydration system, sunglasses, sunscreen, and basic first aid supplies to ensure a safe and enjoyable journey.

Yes, it’s a good idea to do some training before the Tsum Valley Trek. While the trek is not extremely technical, it involves long walking days, uphill climbs, and high-altitude terrain. Preparing with regular walking, hiking on hills, and light cardio exercises will improve your stamina and make the journey more enjoyable.

Yes, altitude sickness can be a concern on the Tsum Valley Trek because the trail takes you above 3,000 meters, where the air has less oxygen. Some trekkers may experience symptoms like headache, dizziness, or nausea. To stay safe, walk slowly, take rest days for acclimatization, drink plenty of water, and avoid rushing to higher altitudes.
